Dangers to Our Democracy

The greatest danger to liberty is whatever individual or group happens to be in power at the moment.
The lure of power (and money) is so great that this is true of even the most benign individual or group.
the old saying is worth keeping in mind: “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”

Winston Churchill has said that democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others.

But the people can deprive themselves of liberty by responding irrationally to appeals to fear, resentment or despair. Hitler came to power by election.

Even the institutions of democracies can be a danger to themselves and to liberty. The Electoral College is part of the Constitution of the United States,
put there by some of the framers who distrusted democracy.
